Every wedding I do I get the same question asked as the big day arises about what to include in the welcome basket/bag. I thought I would put together my ideal welcome gift for an Arizona bride, but it can be easily adjusted for other states. First you need to pick what type of item you will be filling--my favorite is a sturdy bag over a basket just because it is easier to travel back home with. I always tell my couples to make a list of some of their favorites, and then include a couple local items unique to Arizona. Another HUGE component when making these is the color scheme. You have to have an idea of the look your going for, and then "brand" it! Otherwise it will not matter how much money you spent on the goodies if it does not look cohesive. At the bottom of the bag you will want to throw in some kleenex, advil, hand sanitizer and other necessities, but then coming out of the top have all the fun stuff that coordinates.
If the couple loves a certain bakery or salsa put it in because your now sharing a little piece of you guys. I always like to do a treat which in this case are cookies shaped like cactus, but this can be customized to any thing that represents your state. Local wines and beers also always go over really well. It is a nice way for the guest to be able to unwind as soon as they check in from traveling. Another thing that is not pictured but that I normally include is a time line for the weekend--this way the guest knows when to be where and what transportation is being provided. I always like to include an item or 2 that the guest actually will take home as well. In this case it is a AZ olive oil and a mini succulent--both which represent the guests trip to Arizona.
